Well here I am with another DIY project. I love sharing easy projects with you guys, and although this faux leather DIY floor pouf is super easy to construct, it’s really hard to explain the process. Here we go…

To make your faux leather DIY floor pouf, you’ll need

  • 12 bags of 12 oz polyester fiber fill (got mines from Hobby Lobby)
  • 1.25 yds of 60” faux leather fabric or 1.75” of faux leather fabric less than 60” wide (visit any fabric store)
  • Jumbo Wonder Clips (got mine from Joann)
  • Needle
  • Thread

To Do

As I mentioned earlier, this floor pouf is really easy to make, but it’s really hard for me to photograph and explain the process. I’m hoping these photos will help a lot.

To make an 18” faux leather floor pouf, you’ll need to cut out six 19” squares of your fabric. Do this first! Cut out six 19” square pieces of your faux leather fabric. Label your squares #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, & #6. You can write directly on the wrong side of the squares or use tape and label the front of the squares.

  1. Now, we’re going to construct the sides of the floor pouf. Take #1 & #2 and sew them together (right sides facing) down one side ½” away from the edge. You want to sew that seam ½” away from the top and bottom edge. Make sure to use your Jumbo Wonder Clips to pin the sides together. [see slideshow below]
  2. Stretch your #1 & #2 sides out, with the right sides facing up. Your #1 should be to your left and your #2 should be to your right. Stitch your #3 square to the right side of #2 square and follow the same seam allowances as before: ½” away from the side edge and ½” away from the top and bottom edge.
  3. Stitch #4 to right side of #3, following above seam allowances.
  4. Slide the left side of #4 to the left side of #1 and stitch together, following above seam allowances. Now, you’ll have all four sides stitched together.
  5. Now, let’s stitch on the top of the pouf. You need to layer your #5 against the four edges of your newly stitched together sides of the pouf. Use your clips to “pin” the edges together and stitch along each edge, following above seam allowances.
  6. Now, you’re going to stitch the bottom (#6) of the floor pouf. Lay and “pin” your bottom square to the other end of the side squares that you stitched together earlier. Remember to follow the seam allowances as you’ve been doing before.
  7. Clip all corners.
  8. Flip your floor pouf inside-out and use scissors to push your inside corners out.
  9. Stuff with your polyester fiber fill.
  10. Hand-stitch the opening close.

So, that’s basically it, guys. It’s much easier than I may make it seem. Make sure you view the slideshow above before jumping in to to this DIY floor pouf. The photos should help you understand.

I LOVE how it turned out! The 18” size that I made is a really big size, which is perfect for putting my feet up, no matter if I’m sitting on my sofa or one of my three chairs in my living room. The gold color is perfect for my eclectic decor. I actually use this fabric for my gold faux leather pillows, too. Visit my shop to grab you one!

Obviously, Pocahontas loves our new floor pouf, too, because she’s been sitting on it ever since I finished!
