Looking Back at 2015 – a Year in Review

Happy New Year!!

2015 was amazing!

I enjoyed growing as a designer and my blog grew more than ever.

I’ve learned so much about myself, the design industry, and the online world, which has all helped me excel this year.

Here’s my year in review:

January 2015 / February

Added new pillows to my shop and became more active on social media

These two months were pretty uneventful, but I did make a commitment to become more active on social media for my blog and design business. I even launched a lot of new pillows in my pillow shop.

black and brown striped pillow

taupe faux leather pillow and white faux fur pillow

white linen blogging bad*** pillow

March 2015

I revealed my small, galley kitchen

This was the first room in my apartment that I actually decorated, which is kind of funny, because I spend the least amount of time in there. LOL. I painted my back walls black and added storage over my sink. I’m actually about to make some changes in the kitchen again. (more…)

A Therapist Office Feature – Before & After

Hey guys!

Today I have something special for you! I always feature other Designers and their projects. I love to feature fellow designers, but lately I’ve been wanting to feature before and afters of other decor enthusiasts that are either decorating as a hobby or on their way to becoming a Designer. I have my Instagram friend Jessica sharing her before and after of her makeover of a friend’s office.

Jessica in the updated therapist's office.

Jessica in the updated therapist’s office.

Here’s what Jessica has to say about her project:

“This small space, approximately 11ft x 5ft, is a part of a larger 4 story counseling center. The center is very old, with out dated features and furnishings. The therapist, and a good friend of mines, wanted change desperately due to the problem of lack of cohesion, over crowdedness, and an overall out dated, bland look. The things that were most important for the client was to consider that since she specializes in families with kids, and with couples, she wanted something that gave room for both sorts of populations. On one hand, something that was fun and playful, and on the other hand something that was warm, comfortable, inviting, and intimate. Although the space was very small, I still managed to streamline together the design in a manner that was fitting for both mature couples and the kiddos who want to enjoy the colorful poufs. (Which not to mention, my inexpensive diy bold art right above the poufs surely came in handy.) Another challenge I had was that I wasn’t allowed to paint the walls so I used ceiling medallions, spray painted them silver gold and bronze to brighten up the space yet with a warm feeling. And although I do not have a picture, originally the desk was in the therapeutic space, so I expanded the space more by putting the desk in a small nook area that is right off of the office. I decluttered the nook and made room for the desk which fits so perfectly now!”

Jessica lives in Indianapolis, Indiana  and was born and raised there. She’s a self taught decorator and like many of us: “truly gives God the glory for [her] artistic visions!” She is currently working on her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family therapy, and some day hope to incorporate both of her passions of designing and therapy together by helping families optimize their mental health functioning all through the design of their home. She wants to someday move to Southern California and design breath-taking homes, tv and movie sets, and small businesses. If you would like to connect to Jessica, she’d love for you to check out her Facebook page (where her design album is for public viewing),  https://m.facebook.com/jessica.gordon.393.

Thanks so much for sharing your project with us, Jessica. The space looks great. I really love your DIY art and the floor poufs!!

Do you like this office makeover? What’s your favorite part of the space? Drop a comment and let me know!

A Super Cool Art Print and a Personalized Gift from Reimagination Prints

I’m so excited about my latest art prints!

A photo of Nat King Cole printed on a vintage dictionary page from 1897

Reimagination Prints, on Etsy, sent me this super cool art print from their shop. It’s a photo of Nat King Cole printed on upcycled dictionary paper from the 1800s!

When I first took it out of it’s packaging, the first thing I noticed was how soft and thin the paper was. It definitely speaks to its vintage nature.

These antique dictionary pages are from an 1897 dictionary of the English language, so you’ll definitely see some variation in patina and imperfections (which adds to the appeal). It would make a perfect gift for lovers of vintage items and things that have a story.

Belle, the shop owner, finds old books that are falling apart and prints vintage illustrations, old photos, and her own artwork onto the books’ pages. Dictionaries aren’t the only books that she uses; she also upcycles novels and sheet music, too.

Reimagination Prints has so many cool, original art prints in their shop. Check out some of them below.

See, it’s all awesome, right??

But, I have to admit… I’m most excited to tell you about the really neat, super sweet, personal gift she included for me.

For this print, she quoted me from an interview I did with Laptop Cafes.

For this print, she quoted me from an interview I did with Laptop Cafes.

She mentioned to me that she read an interview that I did for Laptop Cafe in the past, so she took a quote from the article and printed it on the vintage dictionary page. It’s seriously one of the sweetest things ever done for me. As soon as I find that perfect frame, I’m putting it in my office.

Do you love these as much as I do? Go visit Reimagination Prints and tell me what print is your favorite!

5 Ideas for Turning Your Home into an Inviting Party Venue

We all love to spend time with friend and family, and doing so at home has become increasingly popular in recent times as people look to save a bit of cash. And let’s face it; sometimes it’s just nicer to have your own space where things are bit more private and relaxed!

If you want to give your home that ‘party’ feel, or are looking to create somewhere that people enjoy gathering at, then there are a number of additions you can make – both affordable and a bit more on the luxurious side – to help achieve this.

Good seating areas

Even when you are having an evening at a bar or in a club, sometimes you just want to sit down, unwind and have a bit of a chat with your friends. A well-thought out seating space can achieve this. If outdoors, a decking area with four small two-seater chairs facing inwards to create a square makes a good social space, whilst inside a comfy corner sofa unit (perhaps one which has built in drinks holders) would work incredibly well.

Quality sound system

No decent party can happen without having some music on, and you’ll want to make sure that the people you have over to your house are able to enjoy the tunes on a good quality sound system. With the technology available to us these days, it’s possible to have one sound system with multiple speakers positioned throughout the house, often connected via Bluetooth and all controlled via your iPod or iPad

Hot tub

A bit more of a luxurious addition to your home would be a hot tub. Putting one in the corner of your garden creates the ultimate, chilled-out party space – it’s something that your friends and family would be bugging you to let them use over and over again! A hot tub from can be enjoyed throughout the year, even when the weather is cold – visit us to find out more about how they could transform your garden.

Dance floor

If you are feeling a bit adventurous (and have the space available), why not look at decking out a dance floor somewhere in your home? If you have a basement then that would make the ideal space for your dance floor – giving you an area to have a bit of a ‘rowdier’ party if you wish to. You had probably best make sure that you don’t have any neighbours that would get annoyed by this though – if in doubt then maybe just invite them along!

Home bar

Home bars are becoming increasingly popular, with those looking to bring the fun of going out into the home environment. You could even use this to complement the dance floor idea above to create the ultimate party area. Those on a budget could even just opt for buying an optics machine and keeping it on your existing counter – giving you a fun yet affordable way to have a drinks night in the comfort of your own home.

So, are you planning to have a party in your home soon? What changes (small or large) are you going to make to turn your home into the ultimate party venue? Tell me all about it below.

Till next time,

XOXO
