This past week, a lot has been done in my dining room! The wallpaper is installed and the built-in finally got some paint!
But, first a quick recap, I’m transforming my dining room (see before photos) in 6 weeks, with the support of the One Room Challenge.
As mentioned before, the One Room Challenge is a six-week series started and hosted by Linda of Calling it Home, where we transform a room from start to finish and reveal it at the end. Linda invites 20 participants as featured designers to post updates on Wednesdays, but anyone, anywhere, can join in as a guest participant and post their updates on Thursdays. I’m a guest participant, so make sure you jump back over here on those days! Check out all the participants, both featured and guests, here.
The built-in is like 75% done, needing only one trim piece around the front and paint. My dad started painting the top of the built-in, but wanted to do a little more sanding before finishing up. I was sure that he would only need one coat of the Behr Marquee ‘Adirondack Blue’ (same color as the ceiling, but in a satin finish), but it could definitely use another coat. The coverage is awesome, though. I always use (and love) Behr Marquee and this is the only time I haven’t gotten a one coat application. Maybe because it was painted directly on wood? Hmmm…
Do you remember in week 2 where I spoke about why I used the base cabinet in the middle of this built-in and the two wall cabinets on either side of the base? Well, a huge benefit of this sink base cabinet is that it has a drawer. Actually, it was a “false drawer”, but my dad made it functioning by detaching this drawer front and building a drawer frame for it. I have no idea exactly what I’m gonna put here, but I can’t wait to use it! LOL!
Speaking of drawers, these are the two handle options I’m trying to decide on. I’ll be centering them along the edges of the six doors and the drawer. I have no idea which one I’m gonna choose when it’s time to install them, but I’m leaning towards the acrylic one. Help me choose in the comments, or go to my IG stories to take the poll! Black and gold or acrylic and black?
Now… let’s talk about the chandelier, okay? Well, there’s nothing to talk about, just lookie…
It’s so fun! And, bold. And fabulous! I’m so happy I went with this style. It really makes the metallic accents in the wallpaper shine! And, speaking of wallpaper…
Look. At. This. Wallpaper! I am most excited about having yet another pattern in my home to rival my entryway walls and my laundry room wallpaper. The blend of colors and textures in this wallpaper is so unique. And, the paper is bold, while also still being a bit subtle from a distance. When my DSLR battery finally gets in, ya’ll are gonna see how bomb it is!
So, apparently Shawn thought it was a great idea to book a 7-day cruise starting Sunday, and while I am SOOOOO excited (I had a blast when we went for the first time last October), I’m also nervous about all the work that I have left to do. I still haven’t started on my dining chairs. Oh em gee.
In just 4 days I have to try to get as much done on my to do list as possible.
Here’s the to do list:
- Have the built-in unit
finishedand painted Paint the repaired drywall on the ceiling
- Paint the ceiling medallion
Wallpaper the three walls
- Strip chairs and sand them
- Get custom art made
Find a mirror for the wall between the bar cabinets
- Shop for more accessories
4 days, yall. FOUR! Keep up with the progress on Instagram, so you can see me try not to rush through everything.
Be sure to go check out the featured designers updates for this week and also other guest participants. Your support through shares, likes, and comments is what helps propel us to get the work done!
I’m dying to know your thoughts on the chandelier and wallpaper! And, which handles should I go with for the doors and drawer? Let me know in the comments below.
Till next time,
