A Tiny Black, White, and Gold Office Makeover – Glam Look Under 50 sqft

Small spaces are probably my favorite projects to transform. In fact, I feel most creative when I’m faced with a small space challenge and have to maximize every square inch. For me, that DOES NOT mean filling a room with furniture, but instead take full advantage of the vertical space and using versatile furniture. So, I’m excited to share this tiny black, white, and gold office makeover – under 50 sqft!

So, when my client reached out to me to transform her TINY (and I mean TINY) real estate office in a commercial building, I knew this would be fun!

Let’s start with a before photo:

Before – Black, White, and Gold Office

My client sent me this before photo of the space and I kept thinking about how I wish she’d have taken a photo so that I could see more of the space. But, then when I saw the space in person, I realized that the photos literally show all there is, LOL.

My client’s office was tiny, y’all, BUT… I knew it would be a pretty easy project, since my client didn’t have a huge list of must-haves for the space. True story: I had a virtual consultation with a client that had a small walk-in closet that she wanted to turn into a home office AND a guest room with a twin bed. It was TIGHT, y’all!

So, back to this office… my client pretty much gave me free reign in designing this space, but she told me that she loved black, white, blue, and gold. She also really wanted a glam design style in this space.

She wanted some sort of shelving, but the printer was for the previous occupant and my client used a laptop that she brought in and out of the office. So, basically, we I didn’t have to worry about where to put a printer or a large desktop.

Also, the furniture was old and a bit scruffy, so they needed to be replaced, and my client insisted on having some chairs in the office for clients to meet at her office. I know it would be tight, because this office is about 6’ x 8’, seriously.

The Design – Black, White, and Gold Office

Like I’ve said before, this space is so small, that I sort of had the design figured out at the design consultation (book your consult now). I knew that the room needed to be painted, because the pinky-beige wall color was a bit dated. I also wanted to bring in some sort of bold statement. Here’s the black, white, and gold office design that I sent to my client:

I knew I would paint the walls white, to brighten up the office, so I used this bold, white and gold geometric wallpaper to make a statement on the wall across from the door.

I, again, went with black furniture for the office, in more modern lines. The desk has drawers to provide space for my client to store paperwork and tools, and the console table has a shelf and space underneath for these two beautiful benches to sit.

The blue benches are from our previous home and were the perfect fit for this tiny office. They nest under the console table, but can easily be pulled out when a client, or two, visits.

Initially, I planned to have floating shelves over the console table, but instead decided that my go-to track shelving system is always a win. They’re extremely affordable, flexible, and easy to install. I went with white, because I knew it would keep the wall from feeling dark, which is what would have happened if I went with black shelves.

My client actually found and insisted on this office chair, which is really pretty. I was going to actually be looking for a white and gold (or white and black) chair, but she loved this one that she found on Overstock. When it came in, though, the “gold” was actually copper. My client didn’t think she wanted to keep it, but I think it grew on her.

After – Black, White, and Gold Office

This black, white, and gold office turned out even better than I thought. It’s so fun and bright and FUNCTIONAL.

I used my favorite white on the walls: Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore. The white looks amazing against the black console and desk and that glam, geometric wallpaper…. GGAAAAHHHHHHHH.

I got a lot of cute accessories for this office (just enough to add a little “glam”), and my favorites are the envelope-shaped thingies on the wall – perfect for folders and important paperwork – and the vase on the desk. I love to gift my clients with hydrangeas at the end of a project.

My client had these cute gold urchin shaped wall sculptures (the same ones that I used in my mom’s guest bathroom) and didn’t know what to do with them. So, I randomly hung them on the wall over the desk. I absolutely LOVE them there!

I sprayed the matting in a frame a fun shade of blue, and my client will add her art into the frame later.

I didn’t get a whole lot of accessories for the space, since I didn’t want to take up valuable storage surface that my client will need later on. But, I did grab some cute polka dotted storage boxes, a mirrored box, glass/gold magazine boxes, and a letterboard.

The ottomans look soooooo good here. I’m really glad my client gave me the thumbs up on these. They’re compact, yet impactful, and a bit comfy, as well. I’m sure my client’s clients will love them!

Half of the wall to the right of the desk gets covered when the door is opened, so I knew I couldn’t do much there. My client wanted a white board, so I grabbed a large one from Office Depot and spray painted the frame gold.

Then, I installed these beautiful wall hooks behind the door so my client can hang her bags and jackets.
