I’m posting TWO makeovers in one week!! WHO. AM. I????
Although I love my recent client’s office, my walk-in closet makeover is one of my favorite projects to date, because it’s MINE! I have only “finished” one room in my home: my kitchen. So, now that my closet is done, I’ve completed 2 of 12 rooms in my house. Wait, that’s not as encouraging as it sounded in my head. Which means, I’m gonna have to try and knock out another room. I’ll probably finish the last little details of my entryway next week, so that I can finally reveal it to you guys, but for now… let’s take a look at my master closet.
We’ll get into all the details, but first let’s start with some before photos.
Before – Dull and Dusty, Dysfunctional Closet
I don’t even know if I need to say much about what was wrong with my closet. I mean, it’s laid out right here in the photos. But, obviously I lacked storage, the ceiling was dirty and ugly, the light fixture is smaller than my middle finger, and the dingy carpet HAD TO GO! The paint color was a huge fail and the electrical panel was an eye sore!
I knew that my closet had a lot of potential, because it was such a good size. I just had to get smart with the layout to maximize the space. So, you know I was happy when one of my favorite brands, Organized Living, agreed to partner with me. I used their Design Tool to design a closet plan that worked with me, and then the Organized Living team helped me tweak it even more.
[disclaim]I partnered with Organized Living to review their #freedomrail system. I was sent product free of charge, but all opinions are mine only![/disclaim]I’ve taken over the Organized Living instagram account today, so I’ve been posting photos of the space and also went live this afternoon to give a tour of my closet. If you missed it, go check that out!
I’m so excited to share what my black and white closet looks like now.
After – Black and White Closet with Fun, Decorative Elements
Let me first say that this #FreedomRail system from Organized Living is so bomb! I used it before when I partnered with Organized Living for a home office makeover and have loved this system ever since. Y’all know I’m team #trackshelving FOREVA!
The #FreedomRail system is really, really easy to install and completely customizable. The installation consists of installing the “rails” level on your wall. I do a little “demo” in the live video from earlier. Check that out. Then, you’ll hang your “uprights” on the rails. Brackets are easily attached to the uprights and from there you can add your shelving alone or with clothes bars. The oBoxes (the drawers that you see) hang directly on the uprights. No brackets needed!!
I can’t decide whether I love my custom oBoxes, my black and white striped walls, or my new light fixture more. What about you?
The oBoxes already looked great, but I wanted a different look. I used a removable, peel-and-stick wallpaper on the drawer fronts and replaced the knobs with these gorgeous acrylic ones. This little DIY project was really quick and turned out so much better than I hoped. Oh! And, if you’re wondering where my electrical panel is, it’s hanging out right behind the mirror. The mirror isn’t attached to the wall. It’s actually just sitting on top of the oBoxes. It can be easily moved out of the way when needed.
I painted black and whites on the ceiling and down the wall with the oBoxes and kept the other walls white, since the other walls would be full of shelves or clothes bars. The stripes make the closet look a lot more interesting and it’s one of my favorite patterns ever. I used vertical black and white stripes in a client’s bathroom before, and vowed to do it in my own home, as well!
Styling my oBoxes has been fun, because I get to make it a bit decorative, which is a MUST for me to be comfortable in any room. I don’t know if I’ll be able to keep up with flowers every couple of weeks, but I’ll definitely grab some greenery from some of my bushes in front of my home. I love the way I can see my everyday pieces of jewelry. I use the two small drawers for other pieces of jewelry, sunglasses, and small accessories.

I don’t have a ton of shoes, but I love having these shelves dedicated to them. I can easily add a shelf or two to make room for more shoes when I need to. That’s the beauty of the #FreedomRail system. You can easily add or remove components as you need to!
I pulled my black and white faux cowhide rug, because it was the perfect fit and perfect color (obviously).
The little nook next to the shoe shelves is now better optimized with more clothes bars! And, I put a little hook on this wall and one lf my favorite pieces of art.

So, what do you guys think? Having a black and white closet has always been a dream of mine, but with black and white clothes to go with it. I’m still working on that, but a neutral wardrobe may never happen for me, because I love color too much!
