I have so much in store for you guys and as mentioned in my last post (about being named a New Orleans Homes & Lifestyles magazine 2017 Design Master), I’m going to try really hard to be more consistent with content here on the blog. Since buying our house in March (remember our apartment?), I have a thousand unfinished projects right now. We completed the kitchen a couple months ago and now I want to do the entryway and living room area, since those are the two areas guests will see when first entering our home.
Today I want to share my entryway plan.
So, here’s what the entryway looked like when we first moved in:
And, here’s what it looks like now:
I know, I know… I got a lot of work to do! I’ve painted (or partially painted, as you can see) the walls Behr Marquee’s Park Avenue (which is such a great taupe-y gray), but I might potentially change the color. I have my living room, kitchen soffits, and hallways painted the same color and I love it!
The reason that I might change the color is that I really want to do a stencil in the entryway. I was thinking about doing a stencil with this same wall color as the background using a gold or copper metallic paint as the color of the details in the pattern of a tribal print (see it below). The design of my home is going to be eclectic and global with lots of color and I really want to set the tone in the entryway with a bold print/color combination.
The lamp you see in the above photos will most likely stay, because I love it. The oversized scale is perfect, and y’all know I love to exaggerate accessories and art. The faux wood bark base has a subtle metallic sheen that is so beautiful up close.
I’m definitely getting rid of the bar cart, because I literally have no room in my home for it. I thought about bringing it outside but it wasn’t cheap – I’d hate the weather to damage it over time. It’s too short (in width) and too deep for the entryway and I really didn’t want a glass piece here, anyway. It is a beautiful bar cart, though. I got it from Wayfair, but couldn’t find the same one, sorry!
Here’s what the idea is for the space:
I’m loving this! This stencil design is going to be crazy and will be such a fun pop of pattern for when first walking in the door. This console table is a wooden one, which is what I prefer for the entry. I love the lines. I am also keeping my batik wall art painting (from an artist in Bali) that I got from Novica. It’s seriously one of my favorite pieces in my home. I only recently framed it by making a wood frame and stapling it around the back, but I love coming home to it every day. I’ll share a quickie tutorial next week.
I’ll be unfolding my black and white faux cowhide rug (I plan to invest in a real one soon) for this space, and I’m actually going to DIY my stools. I cannot wait to share with you the design of those! The ones you see in the design board are from Wayfair.
I’m not sure if you noticed, but in the first picture above (the one that shows what it looked like when we moved in) you’ll see that there is an arched passthrough and an opening in the wall. They lead to the dining room area. We’re planning on pulling up the carpet and installing the same Pergo Java Scraped Oak laminate floors that we put down around the rest of our home. The arched entry will be covered with a barn door, because we’re turning it into a man cave, and I have a special DIY project planned for the opening close to the front door.
Lastly, I haven’t shown a replacement ceiling light, because I literally have no idea what direction I want to go. It’ll probably be an impulse buy while out client shopping, so make sure you’re following me on Instagram so you don’t miss out.
So, what’s next? I have a lot of work cut out for me. I’ve never used a stencil on the walls, so I’m hoping that it’ll be easy enough. I DO NOT want to mess this up. I also have to put all my baseboards down, paint the ceiling, and figure out what color I’m painting the inside of the front door. It’ll probably be a deep blue. I don’t know, yet.
What do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts, so leave me a comment below!
Till next time,

Thank you so much, Ebony!

I love the idea of the stenciled wall!! That chunky table will be great there,I agree…the bar cart doesn’t have enough weight to it. I’m excited to see the barn door!! I’ve never seen one on an arched doorway.
Whitney says
Thanks so much, Kasey! I can’t wait to put a check to this space!

It’s going to look great. I wonder if the wallpaper could be placed on that back wall directly facing the front door too. I don’t know. Could get too busy, but it would be awesome!

Thank you so much, Darcel! I thought about that, too, but that wall goes into the entire hallway, which means I would have to paint the entire hallway – more work, but it would be totally worth it. I’m still trying to decide if that’s something I want to do.
