I’m so happy to let you guys know that I’m partnering with RugsUSA and Lighting Etc. to show you how I’m decorating my small living room.
[warning]UPDATE: I went with a different look for my living room. See that look (inspired from the design board) here. Then, I moved to a new apartment. See the new look here. [/warning]As I’ve mentioned before, my apartment is really small and working from home makes it feel even smaller. I’m on a mission to show you guys how I make use of my small space, while working from home, storing tons of business stuff, and entertaining for family and friends – all while sharing the space with my fiance and malti-poo, Pocahontas. Last week, I revealed the small changes I made in my kitchen that really made a big impact. Check that out here.
Being a designer, it tends to be easy to figure out what a client wants and interpreting their wants and needs into a beautiful, functional space. But, for us, we usually have a hard time deciding on the right design. For me (and a lot of other designers I know), it’s hard, because I have so many different ideas floating in my head at one time. So, I struggle trying to figure out which one (or more) of the idea(s) will work for me.
The one think that I knew for sure is that I wanted to start with a black and white base and layer color and interest in the form of pillows and art.
The sophistication and neutral colors of this room really inspired me. I love how the designer chose a “50 shades of gray” color scheme and brought in a small pop of color with the yellow pillow.
Although I really love the room above, I want more color and some fun accents. Greenery is also a must.
Here’s the rug I chose from RugsUSA:
And these lamp sconces I chose from Lighting Etc are absolutely beautiful and so ME! I can’t wait to put them up.
So, here’s my design board using my new rug and sconces:
Tomorrow I’ll share with you the floor plan and a couple of wall elevations, so you can get a better idea of how everything will fit together.

Till next time,
