Living Room Transformation: Neutral, Glam Living Room – Before & After

I’m so excited to finally share photos from my Oak Ave. neutral living room project. Remember I shared the before and design plan a few months ago?

Well, it’s been through a full transformation. The room is really, really small and doesn’t have a lot of light coming in. There is lots of trees right outside my client’s door, so the light is usually hidden most of the day.

Here’s where we started:

Initially, my client was planning to keep her big clunky leather sofa and matching chair, and only bringing in some accessories, rug, and styling. But, after letting her see some great furniture options, my client agreed to let me find all new furniture, too.

So, I had to find a sofa, armchair, rug, media console, ottoman or coffee table, lots of pillows (Whitney J Decor, of course), and accessories.

Here’s the design board that I initially proposed:

I purchased the sofa from one of my design accounts (instead of the retail one above) and some of the pieces had become unavailable when we began purchasing, so I made some more tweaks to the design.

Once the room was finished, I had Britt Smith Photography come in and do her thing. She was amazing to work with. She’s very patient and was adamant about making sure that I got the shots that I wanted. The room is really hard to photograph, since it’s so small. All images are from Britt Smith Photography. Quite the transformation, right? Because I know that the majority of the room would have neutral colors, I wanted to bring in lots of different textures and shapes. The pillows on the sofa has a lot of different textures: faux fur, linen with gold metallic studs, linen with orange velvet spots, cotton with velvet herringbone texture, plus all the nailhead trim around the sofa.

The sunburst mirror was such a fun, glamorous accent above the sofa. It was the perfect size.

This is my favorite corner in the room! The chair is comfy and is also a recliner – perfect for movie nights. These two gorgeous, curvy vases in the center of the bookcase are from ZGallerie and a show stopper. If you haven’t seen these beauties in person, you should definitely stop into your local store.

The leather bookcase (another one of my faves in this room) displays some of my client’s pieces that she already owned and I brought in some coordinating pieces.

The floor lamp is another one of my favorites. It’s so cool, there’s a button at the top of each head that lets you dim the light to three different settings. Plus, it’s a LED lamp, so bulbs won’t need to be changed for a LONG time.

The end table that I initially specified for this project was back-ordered, so I moved this dresser from my client’s hallway to use as a mini bar. The art above was my client’s, I just found the frames for them. They were perfect to add some color to this mostly neutral living room.

You probably noticed that a desk was not on the design board. That’s because my client didn’t mention it initially, because she didn’t think it could fit. But, moving the leather bookcase (from where this desk is now to over by the window), gave me lots of room for a desk on this wall.

The chrome finish on the desk, along with the glass top and acrylic chair legs make this a ultra glam spot to get some work done. The zebra art was initially supposed to go over the sofa, but at the install, I realized this was a better spot for it.

The TV now has a place on the wall and some storage underneath. This media console was a great price and is much larger than it looks. It has enough storage for books, accessories, and media components when they’re hooked up.

I love when a project is complete and I get to share photos. This neutral living room was fun to complete and is the perfect background for any new accessories or art my client may find.
