Using the Plott App & Cubit tool to Style Art around a Vintage Piano (VIDEO)

I’m always looking for cool tech and software that could help me elevate my design and blog business. I’ve tried so many different things, which is usually fun, since I’m a tech girl at heart. I get super excited when I see a commercial or IG ad for something that I think could help me work smarter and impress clients!

So, when I saw an IG ad for the Cubit tool and Plott app, I knew I had to find out what they’re all about. But, before I could go and grab the tool myself, Plott reached out to me to collaborate on their #LetsPlott campaign! Meant to be, right?

First, what’s Plott and Cubit? Plott is an app that let’s you design virtually, brainstorming ideas, without marking up your wall. It’s perfect for gallery wall enthusiasts or anyone that is indecisive when it comes to wall art. The Plott uses the Cubit tool to guide you to specific hanging points on the wall, bringing your design to life, without needing to do any math or pull out a tape measure. With the Plott, you go into the virtual world, using AR, to arrange your art/objects however you want, to perfect your idea before bringing it to the real world. So, no extra nails in the wall or time spent trying to figure out if something is level! Game changing!!

Getting started is really easy. You simply download the Plott app on your smartphone, and the app walks you through every step of the process.

I used the Plott app and Cubit tool to figure out what to hang over my piano. I was looking for inspiration on how to style art around a vintage piano, which was hard to come by, since people with vintage pianos, usually use vintage or shabby chic decor throughout their home. Ya’ll know that is NOT my style!

I used to have a gallery wall around my vintage piano, but moved all the art to my home office. So, for weeks that wall has been empty, which really threw off the vibes of my living room. I had a few different pieces that I considered placing over the piano, but just never got around with seeing which one I wanted to use.

On the Plott app, I was able to add my background (the wall) and then the objects (wall art) that I knew I wanted to decide on.

To add your object(s), you’d take a photo of it and then record the measurements of each piece by using AR , the Cubit, or just entering the measurements yourself if you already have that information. Then, you’d turn your piece over, take a photo, and click your screen at the exact location of where the hanging points are, so the Plott can automatically record measurements for those points. The Plott app walks you through every single step. I got through it all really quickly!

Once I had my “objects” added to the project, I was able to move each piece around to see what worked for me. Seeing each piece on the wall at the correct scale, helped visualize the exact look, which made the decision easy.

Then, I used the Plott app to set the measurement directions, which are basically where the lasers of the Cubit tool will point while guiding me to my exact hanging point on the wall (where I’d put my nail/screw in). The Plott talks to the Cubit, and you move the Cubit along the wall based on the directions showing on the Cubit’s interface, until the it indicates you are at the hanging point. It’s super cool!

My Juju hat was able to go directly in the spot that I planned on, without putting any extra holes in the wall. If you’re looking for inspiration of how to style art around a vintage piano, this eclectic mix of modern accessories, with the juju hat, really makes the piano look less dated.

I really love how versatile the Plott app and Cubit are. I can imagine opening the app at a client’s home and brainstorming ideas on the spot, showing where to hang items that my client already has in the home.

Or, I can go into a local store, use AR with the Plott (or the Cubit) to add an object to the Plott app, and then bring the piece onto a background in my home or clients’ homes.
