I’m so excited to join in the One Room Challenge this Fall. I’ve got so much work to do and can’t wait to get started in creating another eclectic glam look.
As many of you know, I moved to a new apartment this May and am only just getting to redecorating. Last week, I finally revealed my living room and dining room and now I’m starting on my bedroom.
If you don’t know how it works, for the #OneRoomChallenge, I’ll be sharing updates each Thursday for 6 weeks ending with the room reveal. So make sure you join my email list, follow me on Instagram, and join my decorating group on Facebook.
So, now for the before pics:
My bed and chest are pieces from my grandmother’s old bedroom set that I’ve wanted forever. Now, that I have them, I kind of want something more modern; but since they’re in good shape, they’ll do for now. The two side tables were TJMaxx finds. They’re the same tables, just different colors, so I plan to paint them both the same color. They have lots of storage and I really want to make them a feature of the room. I think I want to do a fun paint treatment. If you have any ideas, let me know!
When we moved, we literally just stuck the furniture in the room without any care for space planning, but here’s what the layout will ultimately look like (*drawing is NOT to scale):
There’s so much to do and with the client projects and blog projects I already have planned, I’ll be cutting it really close with time. Now is the time to put my time management skills to test.
The plan for my bedroom is moody and dark, eclectic and colorful, but sophisticated, too. I want lots of plants, lots of light, and a place to sit, like a chair or bench. There will be beautiful art, luxe pillows and bedding, and lots of texture. Let’s call this style “eclectic glam oasis”.
Eclectic Glam Oasis: lush plants, plenty textures, colors, and styles, and glamorous elements, like fur, shiny metals, glass, and mirrored pieces.
Here’s what’s on my to do list for next week:
- find a set of chairs or bench for end of bed
- find and add trim detail to my custom draperies
- corral all the fabrics that I’m using in the room
- find the perfect dark, moody paint color
- paint the walls
- hang TV
One of the fun problems I’ll have is trying to make this room with large, traditional, semi-ornate furniture feel more sleek and modern. I don’t like a “matchy-matchy” look, but I also don’t want a thrown together look either. So, there will be a lot of balancing acts going on in this room.
Next week, I’ll share the design board and a few renderings, so stay tuned and follow me on Instagram for progress pics along the way. Make sure you go check out some of the other rooms in the One Room Challenge, too!
So, that’s all for now folks. Let me know if you have any ideas for my bedroom and I might just share them next week!
Till next time,
