I’ve been working on a couple projects in my mom’s home, since I’ve moved my office to one of her spare bedrooms. We had a big Christmas party at my mom’s home, so we wanted to get some updates done there before the holidays.
When I got the opportunity to work with Blinds.com, I was excited to dress the windows. My mom’s kitchen is really dark, but for a couple hours a day, the windows expose the kitchen to very harsh lighting. We wanted to filter that light, but still have light come in to brighten up that space.
So, I worked with a Blinds.com design consultant to find the perfect roller shades. There were A LOT of options to choose from. I ordered a bunch of samples, but the three below were the ones that we were a bit torn about. We decided that brown floral (Stacy Garcia Watercolor Floral – Beige) and the linear design (Stacey Garcia Menswear – Tweed) was too much for the mostly brown kitchen. So, we went with the beautiful blue Stacy Garcia Silk in Turquoise.
Production was much faster than I’d expect for custom shades. We ordered on December 9th, production started on December 14th, order was shipped on the 20th, and the shades were delivered on the 22nd.
I was so excited to install the shades, because as you can see in the video, this was at the time when the light is at it’s brightest (which is when it’s most harsh). The fabric of the roller shades are thin enough so that the light isn’t blocked, but still helps the kitchen have a softer illumination.
Installation was pretty easy, too. I had all four shades up in about an hour and a half. I’m like an installation freak. I love putting together furniture, hanging stuff on the walls, and installing faucets.
Ignore our chatter, LOL.
As much as I love the shades, I sometimes wish we would have done a thicker fabric, because it’s really hard to make out the pattern when it’s daytime. Then, when it’s nighttime, you can’t take a good photo, because the lighting is so terrible.
Overall, though, I think they look great here in the kitchen, both along the dining side and over the sink.
So, what’s left for my mom’s kitchen?
- Paint the walls
- Change the ceiling lights
- Add backsplash
- Reupholster the chairs
- Paint cabinets
If you’re working on any window projects, you should definitely check out Blinds.com. You can browse through other window shades, but they also have custom drapery, too.
****Blinds.com sent me these shades for review, but as always when working with a brand, all statements are honest and are my own opinions. Thanks for supporting brands that keep this blog rolling!****
So, what do you think about the new roller shades? Have any installed in your own home?
Till next time,
