Last week was a good week for me when thrifting. It’s not that I’ve found the best items, but I’ve just found great things to do with them. Check out what I found while thrifting.

This very tired, beat up microwave cart was photobombed by my Malti-poo, Pocahontas, but I’m excited about how I’m planning on transforming it. I paid $5 for it at a garage sale I spotted while driving on the highway early one morning. I want to turn it into a bar cart, and think it’ll be cool with the shelves at the bottom. This is will definitely be more useful for me as a bar cart (opposed to the ones that are sold in the store), since I’m so short on storage space. As of now, I want to paint it a bright color, like chartreuse, mustard, or gold and add decorative trim to the front edges. I’ll also change the wheels to furniture legs to make it taller and more like a custom piece. And, see how it’s doing the gangsta lean to the side? I’ll have to go and ask my Home Depot friends the best way to get this thing standing straight. This is going to be so fan-tabulous!!! (fantastic+fabulous=fan-tabulous, just so you know)

This brass, footed vase-like, pot-like, urn-like thing is so cool. I can’t wait to clean it up. I think I want to use it on my new bar cart (as mentioned above), but I’m not sure if I’ll use it to hold ice and wine bottles or to place fresh flowers in it.

This guy here is brass, too, and extremely heavy. I think I’ll call him Sam. I feel like that’s what his monkey friends use to call him before I swiped him up. He needs a good cleaning, and afterwards I’m pretty sure I’ll just rotate him around like I do all the other painted and brass animals I’ve hoarded over time. I love animals, so I really like to collect paintings, drawings, and little sculptures of them. I got it for $5 and it came with feathered christmas ornaments and a long strip of feather trim (not pictured) inside.

So, I gotta admit that I’m tempted to spray paint these brass candlestick holders. I’m not really a big fan of the design of them, but I couldn’t pass them up. I paid $3 a piece. I think that I’d like them more if they had a matte finish, like maybe in a bright yellow or a matte gold. I’m not sure, guys, what do you think?

So, these two vases will get a facelift, too. I really want to spray paint the stone vase, but I’m not sure of the color. The floral one – I want to paint that one two, but I want to hand paint a pattern on a white, solid background. I really want to hand paint either a geometric or floral pattern. That’s gonna be tough, but I’m determined and will keep you posted. I got them for $1 a piece at a garage sale.
I must say, though, some of the pieces I mentioned earlier – that I called “brass” – may not be solid brass, but brass-plated and filled. I was told when I purchased them that they were, but I’m not entirely sure. I’m talking particularly about the vase and candlestick holders. The monkey is solid brass (at least I think it is). Let me know if you have any insights on determining this.
So, what have you thrifted lately? Have any ideas on how I can update the pieces I’ve found last week? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Till next time,
Wow, those are some finds. I can’t wait to see what you do with them. 🙂

Those are some great finds! I’m on the hunt for some very large pots for my patio, as well as a bench for the front porch. No luck yet, though!

Hey Kristen!
I found a bench a few months ago for $15. It’s kind of small, but I still upholstered it and it looks great in my bedroom. Good luck with your hunt!
Still hunting! I have hope, though! LOL Thanks for linking up at the #homematters linky party! We hope to see you again this coming Friday!

I like the stone vase. Looking forward to your makeovers. You have a lot of work to get done! It was a fun trip out thrifting. We enjoy thrifting also, especially Estate sales. I found some really nice vintage linens at an estate sale recently.

Vintage linens? I never can find the good ones!
I’m in love with the footed brass urn! And brass is so trendy right now. That stone vase would be left as is. I love the rustic look and it would be perfect as part of a Thanksgiving Day tablescape. 🙂
I’m so looking forward to seeing what you do with that cart. And the monkey is just adorable. Great finds!!

Thanks, Alli!!
I never thought about using the vase as is, but as I look at it a bit closer, it’s just a tad bit to beat up and dirty. Maybe I’ll try and clean it up a bit and see how I like it. Thanks for the idea!
I am always so amazed how people like you could find such thrifty stuff and turn them into beautiful things! I love the little doggy in the first photo. Way too cute!
