A Total Transformation: Gorgeous, Eclectic Dining Room Reveal

These past couple of months, I’ve been swamped with client projects and pillows, but I have a lot on the way for the blog. I’m so excited to finally reveal photos of my recent eclectic dining room project that I’ve been working on for over a year!

The before photo is a bit sad:

To transform this room, we changed from carpet to slate floors, removed wallpaper, painted the walls, installed custom draperies, changed lighting, and brought in some gorgeous furniture, art, and accessories.

Here’s what the room looks like now:

Painting the walls black and white was the jumping off point for this entire space. The carpet was replaced for these beautiful charcoal slate floors and is probably the update in the room that is my favorite. The black Restoration Hardware table pulls the black from the wall and into the room. It has an extension leaf to seat 10 people. I installed the mirrors to help reflect light around the room. They were in another part of my client’s home, but we felt like would be a better fit in the dining room.

The custom drapes were a fun touch in the room and has a unique, gray wood grain design that I thought would go great in a room like this. It was actually one of the first things that we got done for this space. I choose the fabric, my client approved, and my workroom got right on it. I’m so glad we went this route. They’re flat panels installed on rings with clips to keep the look casual.

The cowhide rug helps bring in some more brown, like you’ll see in the rest of the pics. I’m all about repeating color around a room.

This is my favorite view and is the first view you’ll see when you walk through my client’s front doors. It’s right off the entryway. I posted lots of peeks at this art piece on my Instagram account and knew that I would use it to create balance along this window. See how it (along with the dresser underneath) sort of mimics the scale of the cabinet on the right of the window? I also love that the colors are repeated along this wall.

This view is a perfect representation of me and my client’s eclectic style. You see the mix of old and new, glam and classic elements, and bold use of color and texture.

This stone & wood bowl is massive, beautiful, and gives me so much life! I found it at Home Goods and wanted one for myself, too. Unfortunately, the second one in the store was broken. I was surprised about that, though, because it’s very well made and heavy. I love it so much! It was the perfect accent for the table and looks great with the moss and moss balls.

These mustard velvet World Market chairs are another one of my favorites in this room. Initially, I specified these for my client’s office, but after seeing them in person, I realized they would be work well in the dining room. Since, we are still working in the office, we knew we could replace the chairs with some others.

My client collects art and had loads of pieces to choose from. I’ve been infatuated with this piece when we first met a few years ago. I didn’t think to bring this piece in until the day of the install and I’m glad I did, because it looks amazing in this corner! It’s an original by the talented Lydell Martin. He creates the pieces and his wife embellishes them with crystals and rhinestones.

This view shows the beautiful chandelier that we purchased on display at a local NOLA lighting company. It was sitting pretty in the store and my client and I both knew we had to have it! I can’t imagine leaving the store without it. You can also see the last two pieces of art that we used. They’re from Lydell Martin, too.
