I’m so excited to reveal my One Room Challenge project!
If this is your first time visiting my blog, I’m a NOLA-based interior designer & influencer. I have an online shop and am open to the public for local shopping, as well!!
If you’re wondering… the One Room Challenge is a weekly series started and hosted by Linda of Calling it Home, where we transform a room from start to finish and reveal it at the end. Linda invites 20 participants as featured designers to post updates on Wednesdays, but anyone, anywhere, can join in as a guest participant and post their updates on Thursdays. Typically the ORC is six weeks, but this round we have EIGHT weeks to transform our spaces, having the big reveals on November 17th!
I’ve transformed my living room and home bar, and made some minor (but bold) updates in my entryway and hallway. I attempted to get my kitchen done in time, but it didn’t work out! I had to do way too much sacrificing and pivoting to try and make it work, which felt so unfair to me. Instead, I’m going to take a little more time to get it exactly how I want so it’s perfect!! I’ll be able to reveal that space to you soon! If you want to see all the previous ORC challenges I participated in, check out my Week 1 intro post.
Okay, on to the transformation! My living room got a huge transformation! Just look at the color!
For a split second I thought the Bushoong Kuba wallpaper from The Pattern Collective was going to be too muted, but it was perfect! It’s a small scale tribal print in a brown (yes, brown) and taupe pattern and it’s everything! I can’t think The Pattern Collective enough for gifting me with this wallpaper! Thank you!
My fireplace was another one of those things I had to pivot on, because we badly wanted to tile it! We wanted these beautiful stacked stone tiles, but wouldn’t have been able to get our fireplace hearth stone in time for the reveal. I chose to instead keep the fireplace brick and just fill the grout lines to make it less dated. We painted it this beautiful green/charcoal color and it looks amazing. Seriously, for 4+ years I’ve dreamed of removing this brick and now I actually love it!
Ideally, I would have wanted to wallpaper this wall here, but I didn’t have enough to cover both this wall and the one opposite it, so I opted to keep them white. It’s perfect for resting your eyes from all the other eye candy in the room, haha.
My bar is now my favorite element in the space, although there are a few finishing touches that we still need to work on, like putting the doors on the backside and the shelving above the faucet. But, I’m loving this slat detail that we installed along the front and the butcher block countertop. I wanted to keep the butcher block in its original color and just seal it so we can cut/chop on it, but hated the natural color for this space. So, we stained it!
My gallery wall came out so beautiful and is such a nice change from the view that was there before. This is the wall where my huge piano used to be and I’m so happy it’s gone! Now, I need a keyboard! I still want to play!
My hallway and entryway didn’t go through many changes, since I already loved my furniture and vignettes, but I was longing for black walls and bold interior doors! I used Kelly Moore’s AcryPlex Interior Paint in Stiletto (in eggshell) and it made a huge difference against my entry and hallway cabinets. I love the way the black pops against my mustard cabinet! I knew I wanted blue doors, but it took forever to find the perfect shade. I landed on a teal color and it’s a VIBE! Bold and colorful is what I wanted and throughout these small spaces, I’ve achieved that! The doors are painted Kelly Moore’s AcryPlex Interior Paint in Bay Isle Point (in satin)
So that’s all for now, guys! I hope you loved the reveal and following along through some of the process. If you did, I would love for you to come follow me on IG! I’ll be back to share links to many of the items used and more detail shots.
