There’s not a whole lot of stuff to see here, as we have had some delays. But, I can already see it. My dining room is going to look amazing! The rest of the rooms are gonna be jealous, for sure!
If you didn’t know, I’m transforming my dining room (see before photos) in 6 weeks, with the support of the One Room Challenge.
As mentioned before, the One Room Challenge is a six-week series started and hosted by Linda of Calling it Home, where we transform a room from start to finish and reveal it at the end. Linda invites 20 participants as featured designers to post updates on Wednesdays, but anyone, anywhere, can join in as a guest participant and post their updates on Thursdays. I’m a guest participant, so make sure you jump back over here on those days! Check out all the participants, both featured and guests, here.

Take a look at before photos of the dining room here and see the updates from last week here.
This week, all the work can be summed up in just two photos.

I’m excited to share that the ceiling has been scraped and painted and the chandelier is installed! I wish I had time to share photos of the light completely assembled, but it will take a lot of time to put all the gold spikes in. I literally just had it installed this morning!
The ceiling color (which is the color the built-in will be), looks a lot darker here than it is in person, but it still has that moody vibe that I love! We moved the light box so the chandelier is center where the dining room table will be, so we have to do a little ceiling repair. We had to spray the ceiling with the popcorn texture, then scraped it off after it dried to give it the knockdown look. You can see this technique in my ORC – Dining Room highlights on Instagram.

The built-in! It’s so close to being finished! He’s finishing the last trim along the bottom and the crown moulding along the top and then it’ll be ready for paint! These days, things are so unpredictable, I don’t even want to say that it’ll be painted by next week’s update. Because, ya never now, ya know?
Anyways, as always, I’m sharing lots of behind the scenes on my IG.
There’s a lot of work ahead of me. Here’s what I hope to have done by next week’s update:
- Have the built-in unit finished and painted
- Paint the repaired drywall on the ceiling
- Paint the ceiling medallion
- Wallpaper the three walls
- Strip chairs and sand them
- Get custom art made
- Find a mirror for the wall between the bar cabinets
Be sure to go check out the featured designers updates for this week and also other guest participants. Your support through shares, likes, and comments is what helps propel us to get the work done!
I want to hear your thoughts about what’s happened so far, though. Let me know in the comments below.
Till next time,

Your dining room is looking great Whitne. Looking forward to seeing the finished space.
Thanks, Shelly!
I’m so excited to see everything come together and also loving all the behind the scenes on Instagram 🙂
Thank you so much, Katrina! I’m enjoying seeing your progress, as well!
