Okay, I’m moving like a snail when it’s comes to making updates here in my kitchen, but I’m hoping to pick up the pace next week to get everything done by the end of these 6 weeks of the One Room Challenge. As I mentioned last week, I’ve tried to finish two separate projects in previous challenges (one didn’t get finished in time and the other was my bedroom in the apartment we recently moved from), so I’m really motivated this time.
Here’s a before photo of my kitchen when we first moved in:
Here’s the plan:
paint: Behr Marquee’s Dragonfly // flush mount light // Pergo Java Scraped Oak floors // fabric // faucet // backsplash // Caesarstone London Gray countertop
I’m so excited about this beautiful flush mount light. My kitchen is small and will be pretty neutral, so I need to find a way to bring in some interest. That light will be the perfect accent to grab your attention when you walk into the kitchen.
I’m also using this beautiful chevron fabric to make my roman shades for my window. It’s a fun fabric in a beautiful, soft teal color. Two things about this fabric: (1) I use this fabric in another color for a certain pillow in my shop & you can get your own here and (2) I don’t care that chevron is on everybody’s “out” list for trends, I always do what I want. I plan to use a similar color in the fabric for the walls. Behr Marquee’s Dragonfly, to be exact.
Caesarstone is providing the beautiful countertops (London Gray – which you can see above in the plan and in the photo below) and I already have the flooring and the faucet (see it in my last apartment here).
As you can see, the counters that we have now GOT TO GO! It’s a laminate countertop that’s a yellowish leaf pattern and is completely dated. The London Gray (#3 above) that we chose is neutral and has creamy gray tones.
So far I haven’t really gotten anything done, because I’m juggling some other client projects. I actually have a bedroom install coming up next week that I can’t wait to share. You’ll get to see the before, during, and after on my YouTube channel (along with One Room Challenge updates starting next week), so make sure you’re subscribed!
I’m buying the backsplash next week, so I’ll show you a closeup then.
I did get to remove some of that drop ceiling situation and am working with a contractor to get it completely removed. We bought a new LG refrigerator and I’m also trying to get part of the wall removed behind it, so that it doesn’t stick out into the kitchen as much as it is now. It feels way to closed up. By next week, I hope to have scraped off all the popcorn and have it skim-coated.
Here’s what I’m going to be doing next week:
- removing glitter popcorn foolishness happening on the ceiling
- installing laminate wood floors in the kitchen
- removing all the stone backsplash
- ordering fabric for window’s roman shade
- painting cabinets
So, stay tuned to the updates, I’ll have more for you next week! Make sure you’re following me on Instagram and Twitter, subscribed to my YouTube channel and email list!
