Y’all keeping up? Have you seen the inspiration for the project I’m linking up for the One Room Challenge? Here’s the inspiration that I came up with for my client’s guest room. I love starting with a mood board before developing the actual design of the room. Here’s the inspiration:
Colorful, right? Right! I’m so excited that my client is pretty much giving me free reigns on this one, only requesting for a modern, bright room.
So, this project is a guest bedroom, where I feel you can take a lot of risks. Some people like to have a calm, neutral guest room, because it feels more welcoming to them, but personally, I prefer a guest room that is fun and unforgettable. Obviously, you want to provide a comfy stay, so luxurious linens and plush pillows are a must.
I hope you’ve already read the Week 1 post, but if not, here’s a before pic to remind you of what we’re working with:
And, you’ve seen the inspiration, so now here’s the plan for the guest room:
Paint color
I want to go bright white on the walls, so that all the color can pop. I plan on doing two feature walls in this small space, so I’m loving the color Chantilly Lace. It’s the same white that I used in a fashion boutique project that I’m working on (I showed BTS on Instagram – more details coming soon) and I love it. It’s the perfect background color for such a bold design.
Lime Green Draperies
I am seriously obsessed with all things lime green and chartreuse right now, so when I found this faux silk fabric, I knew it was perfect for custom window curtains in the room. Having the bold pop of green will be so fun and will really be an unexpected element when you walk through the room door. I think guests will LOVE it!
TV Wall / Gallery Wall
Room designed by Burnham Design | Image found on Lonny
I love a good gallery wall, seriously. You can see a pic of my gallery wall from my apartment, and I have a big one planned for my new home. I want to do a well-curated gallery wall in my client’s guest room full of amazing art and beautiful modern, black frames. The TV is small, so this is a fun way to disguise it, while making it apart of the gallery wall.
DIY Headboard
Bedroom designed by Tara Fingold | Photo from Style at Home
Sooooooo, we’re actually going to make the headboard and I’m so excited about that! It’s gonna be a horizontal panel headboard in either a linen or a velvet, depending on what fabric I find. I’ll be out looking for fabric Monday & Tuesday, so make sure you’re following me on Instagram, for behind the scenes video/shots while I’m out shopping! I’m seriously considering a black fabric (because the headboard will be across from the black framed gallery wall), but I’m still not sure.
Upholstered Storage Bench
I grabbed this storage bench from Home Goods, and I’m recovering it with a graphic pattern. The lines are gorgeous and the oversized nailhead trim will be amazing with the updated fabric. More on that next week!
Bold, painted dresser
Okay, so here’s another thing I’m unsure about. I found this chest of drawers on Facebook and arranged with the seller to pick it up on Sunday. It’s not a large dresser (36” wide x 27” high), but I plan to beef it up with some furniture legs, a round mirror above it, and some awesome styling. But, I’m not sure if I should paint it a semi-gloss deep pink or deep purple? Y’all help me out. Let me know what you think in the comments.
Stenciled wall design
Gatsby Glam Art Deco Wall Stencil from Royal Design Studio Stencils
To say I’m excited about this Royal Designs stencil design is really understating it. I have never done a stencil project on a wall, so I’m also a wee bit intimidated. This is probably going to be a project for week 5, because I want to make sure I get some of the other things done first. I’m thinking there’s like a 20% chance I might cancel this plan. Like I said, I’m extra, but this isn’t my home, it’s a client’s. So, as much as I want it to be wild and crazy, I want it to be something my client will be comfortable with. But, seriously, how amazing is this stencil??!
So, there’s a LOT to do and I’m really excited about the process. I can’t wait to share more updates next week!! What do you guys think about rug options and the color for the dresser? Leave me a comment below!
Till next time,
